STREET STYLE TRENDS–UNIQUE CLOTHING
New York Fashion Week is all about the style–on the runway, in the audience– but the street style is where it’s at for the fashionistas and fashion bloggers who cover the big shows. You can find inspiration in the unique clothing and accessories that the fashionistas are sporting in New York–and Milan and London, too.
A few tips for fall trends:
It’s Achilles revenge–foot and fashion-savvy women in Milan gave up their sky high heels in favor of canvas sneaks. The Converse All-Star or Chuck Taylor still rules the streets–wear them with absolutely anything and everything. No, you can get your Chucks in all the colors or design a custom pair, but nothing beats the old-school white–try them with a skater dress and slouchy cardigan, or a cozy sweater dress. For a serious pop of fun, how about a yellow and white checkerboard pair with black skinny jeans and a moto jacket.
Fur is not just for your grandmother anymore. It’s fun and it’s faux, so you can flaunt your fox completely guilt-free. You can sport a full length in fire-engine red, or throw on a belted teal trench with a huge fur collar for a rainy day. The trendiest jackets for fall are so furry they look like rugs and are unstructured and colorful. If you’re truly fashion forward, try a floor-length fur skirt for evening.
They’re back, unless for you they never went away. Trendy Parisians are rocking a more structured, fuller mini–there might even be a hint of tulle underneath to really give it shape. Wear them with anything–patterned tights, thigh-high socks or boots, flats–or your Chucks. A slim silhouette is the key to pulling off a mini, so make sure your top is fitted–no cheating at the gym just because it’s cold out.
Vests are this year’s basic–you can get them in lots of colors, fabrics, and weights and they’re inexpensive enough for you to have several in your closet. There’s the old-school quilted vest, but this year get one in hot pink or an arctic white. Fringed suede vests look great with jeans or a denim skirt and boots, or you can try a bright blue houndstooth check.
Fall 2015 is a great season to mix up some old with the new without breaking the bank. Splurge on a few great pieces that you’ll work into your wardrobe for years, and have fun with the of-the-minute really trendy–like the fringed fur vest or a flannel dress.
